The Third Chapter : Interview with YenTing Chen (English ver.)

Every artist is guided by something that cannot always be seen, yet quietly gives meaning to everything they create. In this conversation, YenTing Chen reflects on a practice shaped by a quiet attentiveness to light, time, and the subtle sensations of everyday life. Through fleeting moments of light across empty interiors and familiar landscapes, he explores how a single moment can hold not only what we see, but also the stillness, atmosphere, and feeling that exist within it. Beyond every finished work lies a way of seeing the world. One shaped by the moments we notice, the sensations we carry, and the quiet spaces we inhabit. The Core Message invites readers to encounter that quiet inquiry through the artist's own words. -- Q. Thank you for joining us. To begin our conversation, we are curious to know how you define your identity as an artist at this moment and what central theme most occupies your thoughts. A.  To be honest, I haven’t consciously defined my identity as an artist...

Q. Over the past two years, have there been any changes in your artistic approach or style? What influenced those changes?

A. I think that there were not big changes in my style or artistic approach. i would like to have more time to develop new techniques, but at the moment it is not so easy.

Q. Over the past two years, in your recent exhibitions or social media posts, have you received any audience reactions or feedback about your work that stood out to you?

A. I had some good feedbacks, on average, nothing less and nothing more than the last two years. Unfortunately, it seems that the trend is to pay a lot of money to exhibit one or two pieces, unless you are not in business with an art gallery already. I am not referring to U1 gallery, for which the amount of money was not big by my last experience, but i am referring to the fact that a lot of people/associations use to contact artists like me asking hundreds of euros to exhibit one or two pieces together with a lot of other people, with no challenge for the curators neither for the artist. This kind of events do not give anything more than the event itself to the artist.

Q. Do the sources of inspiration you mentioned before still hold true, or have you found new inspirations in your work?

A. Actually i am moving through the same atmosphere and source of inspiration.

Q. Have there been any changes in your methods or tools? How do you see the impact of technological advancements on your work?

A. I would like to find i way to do some effective abstract, but it is not easy and it needs a lot of experience in my opinion.

Q. Over the past two years, has there been a change in the message of your work, or has it remained the same? What emotions do you hope the audience will experience through your pieces?

A. I think that it remained the same.

Q. Looking back over the past two years, what do you feel you have grown the most in as an artist? How has that growth influenced your current work?

A. In the last year i had some big events in my life, for example i changed my house and this took a lot of time, then unfortunately i had not so big chances to have an artistic growth due to the lack of time. I hope to be more productive now.

Q. Have you experienced any interesting elements or discoveries by chance during your work? How have those experiences impacted your pieces?

A. No, for the moment.
